Welcome foodies, these biscuits are rich in flavour and history! Anzac biscuits were delivered to Australian soldiers fighting in war. Anzac biscuits or 'soldiers biscuits' were particularly sent because they don't spoil easy and travelled well. I hope you give these historical biscuits a go!
Ingredients- Makes- 11
- 2 cups of Rolled Oats
- 1/2 a cup (60g) of Butter
- 1/3 cup of Golden Syrup
- 1 tsp Baking Powder
- 1/4 cup of Brown Sugar
- 1/4 cup of self raising flour
- 1/2 cup of flour
How to-
1. Preheat oven to 180 degrees celsius and line 2 small baking trays or 1 large baking tray with baking paper.
2. Combine dry ingredients (self raising flour, flour, rolled oats, baking powder, brown sugar) in a large bowl.
3. Melt golden syrup and butter, once butter is completely melted add to dry ingredients in the large bowl.
4. Form tightly packed balls with the mixture and then squish them down to form a biscuit shape.
Pro tip!- Use a fork or the palm of your hand to squish the packed balls down. Be sure that they are still tightly packed when squished down.
5. Bake in oven for 20-30 mins or until golden brown.
